Overview

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (サイバーパンクエッジランナーズ, Saibāpanku Ejjirannāzu) is a 2022 Polish–Japanese collaborative cyberpunk ONA anime on Netflix animated by Studio Trigger (Japanese side) based of the world of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game by CD Projekt Red (Polish side).

This work is set in the near-future city of Night City, the same city as the game Cyberpunk 2077.

In this huge city where technology and human body modification have become commonplace, the story follows a boy who follows the path of an outlaw mercenary - in other words, a cyberpunk - while making many sacrifices and overcoming difficulties.

In other words, it is an original animation series of 10 episodes that follows the story of a boy who walks the path of cyberpunk, making many sacrifices and overcoming difficulties.

Evaluation and comparison with the original (minor spoilers)

The anime has a serious plot that matches Studio Trigger's strong action with the setting of the original game, and is relatively light on the comedic touches and super-developments of the company's anime.

Although it can be understood without playing the original game, a glossary of terms on the official website will deepen your understanding.

On the other hand, the visuals in the anime reproduce those of the game to such an extent that those who have played the game and watch this anime will feel a strange sense of nostalgia at the sight of the familiar Night City.

In the original game, the main character V becomes a "living legend" through battles with Arasaka, the giant corporation that controls Night City.
