    The modern age (近代, kindai) is one of the period divisions in history, referring to the period later than the Early Modern period and earlier than the present day.

    The modern period in Japan is from the Meiji Restoration to the end of the Pacific War (1945). In terms of years, it includes Meiji, Taisho, and Showa before 1945. In a broader sense, it includes the end of the Edo period and the modern era.
