Overview
In monster training games, the first monster you get is often fixed, but the Pokémon series does not use such a format, but instead lets you choose from among three starter Pokémon (ポケモン御三家, Pokemon gosanke).
In all generations, each Pokémon has one of the three types: fire, water, or grass. They are distinguished by players by the name of the region in which the Pokémon appeared in the first game of each generation.
