Game Overview
OMORI is a surreal psychological horror RPG Maker game developed by OMOCAT. The game is based on several previous works by OMOCAT, including OMORI's Blog, OMORI's Story, OMORI's Sketchbook, and an unfinished graphic novel.
Game system
Overworld
The player controls a party of four characters who travel through the game's colorful two-dimensional world.
Battle
OMORI features many traditional RPG elements but contains a unique battle system.
Friends and enemies can be affected by emotion. Emotions can be changed by using a skill or item during battle. Enemies may also affect characters' emotions. Different emotions have different effects.
When a party member attacks or uses a skill, they can choose to Follow-Up. Party members need to save up Energy to perform Follow-Up abilities. Every battle starts with the party at 3 Energy. Energy goes up by 1 whenever a party member gets hit or lands a hit or skill. Follow-Ups usually cost 3 Energy, but can be stored up to 10. The effect depends on who is interacting with who.
Story
The game focuses on OMORI, a depressed young boy, going on an adventure with his friends to find their friend Basil while helping others in the world along the way.
Outside of the dream world, the protagonist is Sunny, a boy who didn't leave his house for years. When his friend Kel learns Sunny will move away in a few days, he visits Sunny to try to make him leave his house and reunite their childhood friend group.
