Overview編集

A general-purpose mass-produced MS of the Earth Federation Forces. The GM II, which had been removed from the front lines due to the outbreak of the Gryps War, was modified mainly by the AEUG and Karaba, and was used as the main mass-produced machine of the Federation Army until the Second Neo Zeon War (Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack).

Before the outbreak of the Gryps War, the Federation Army had deployed a large number of GM IIs and Hizacks as the next-generation main mass-produced machines, but during the development of these two machines, dissatisfaction with their performance arose due to collusion between the Federation Army's upper echelons and various manufacturers. As a result, a further next-generation machine development project, the GM III Project, was launched to replace these two machines, and parts that were rejected during the process were used in the Wagtail unit of Anaheim Electronics, among others.

The exact impact of this project on this unit is unclear, but after the end of the Gryps War and the change of government, all Titans-led weapons development was halted, frozen, or merged. This coincided with the reduction in the scale of government factories, the expansion of development outsourcing to Anaheim, and the halt in production of the Nemo (Gundam), which had problems with cost performance. As a result, this unit was deployed in combat as a stopgap until the completion of Anaheim's new Jedah (Gundam) or mass-produced Jegan. *Machine description

As it is based on the assumption that it will be a modification of the existing model, the GM II, it is a design that cannot ignore cost performance, but the Gryps War that broke out earlier was a war between factions within the Earth Federation government, which exhausted the human resources of the Federation, and the MS of the same period were evolving to the point of being called dinosaur-like by thoroughly improving the performance of individual units, so this machine was finished as a machine with the potential to respond to the situation at the minimum level.

The biggest feature is that it incorporates the technology of the GM Mk-II and Barzam based on the data collected by the Hazel Kelderk>GM Quell, and by changing the backpack to a simplified mass-produced model of the Mk-II, it not only improved mobility but also gained a new docking function with the G Defender. In addition, more than 30% of the machine was replaced with the same parts as these two machines, and following the trend of MS of the era, Zeon technology was also introduced into the avionics and control system. At the same time, some of the armor materials incorporate Gundarium alloy. The vernier arrangement, similar to that of the Mk-II, allows for hit-and-run tactics after eliminating the missile pods, and also meets the needs of Federation soldiers trained on the ZeonGalbaldy β. However, the Mobile Frame structure, the Gundam Mk-II's flagship technology, is only used in the arms, just like the GM Quell, and the legs are limited to adding movement support devices such as amplifiers and actuators.

In addition, as a technology spun off from the T3 Unit, the thrusters to support the AMBAC on the rear of the lower legs, which were experimented with on the GM Sniper III High Mobility Specification, are adopted.

As a result of this modification, the catalog specifications were such that it could perform almost on par with the Gundam Mk-II, but as mentioned above, since this was meant to be a replacement until the completion of the new mass-produced model, the total number produced was low among the GM series, at only about 800 (however, this was only due to the abnormal number produced during the One Year War, when a large-scale all-out war was waged on both ground and space, and since Neo Zeon also deployed the small-scale production mass-produced towards the end of the conflict, it would be more natural to think of it as the most-produced model of the time).

During the Second Neo Zeon Conflict in Universal Century 0093, it fought alongside the ν Gundam as reinforcements for Londo Bell to stop the fall of Axis.

In the later Universal Century 0096, it was deployed mainly in frontier areas where the latest machines were not fully deployed, such as supply ships that needed escorting, the federal capital Dakar, and Trinton Base, and was mainly used as a commander's machine to resist the Sleeves and Zeon remnants.

In addition, even after Universal Century 0110s, it was partially used.

Armament編集

This machine was designed from the beginning to counter the heavy mobile suits of Neo Zeon after the introduction of new machines, and has a mount latch for use as a support machine from medium to long distances. Therefore, it is believed that there are other heavy weapons that can be equipped on the latch besides the aforementioned G Defender, but at present only the following large missiles have been confirmed.

Head Vulcan Cannon編集

A 60mm machine gun that can be said to be standard equipment for Federation mobile suits.

Beam Saber編集

The same model as the one used by the Gundam Mk-II, but the oscillator is a mass-produced product that was widely used, and the output is 0.4MW, 0.05MW lower than that of the Gundam Mk-II. Two are equipped on the flexible vernier thrusters on the backpack.

This is actually the first mass-produced main unit to come standard with two sabers (even if we broaden our scope to the GM series mobile suits, it is limited to the GM Command series, Ground Type GM, Nemo, etc.).

Beam Rifle編集

A minor change model of the BR-S-85-C2 used by the GM II and Nemo.

The Gundam Mk-II omitted the energy supply route inside the arms, which would have been an obstacle to the mobile frame structure, so it used a dedicated beam rifle equipped with its own energy source, but this unit uses a model developed before that, and it is thought to have inherited the energy supply mechanism from the Nemo, which uses a similar rifle.

In addition to making the equipment lighter, the output was increased to 2.8MW, the same as the BR-M-87 of the Hyaku Shiki, but the energy supply was not the E-pack method that was becoming mainstream at the time, but the built-in E-CAP method as in the One Year War, and since it is a small rifle with a short barrel that prioritizes maneuverability, there is little room in the internal structure, and problems remain in its ability to continue fighting and long-range firing performance. In the later stages, a modified version called the "E-pack type BR-S-85-C2, which replaces the long, box-shaped E-pack of the Jegan A-type beam rifle with the foregrip section" was also sold, but only a very small number were produced and it was mainly equipped as a backup firing weapon for the Stark Jegan. There were also units that were equipped with the Jegan rifle as it was.

Shoulder missile pod編集

Missile pod that can be equipped on both shoulders.

Once the missiles are fired, the next one is loaded from the back. There are two types: the "Normal Missile Pod" which has a total of 16 medium-sized missiles in a quadruple mount, and the "Option Missile Pod" which has a total of 30 micro missiles in a 15-barrel mount. It is the main weapon when used as a support unit, and later the Stark Jegan adopted the same type of missile as the Normal Missile Pod.

Large missile launcher on the waist編集

An optional double-barreled large missile that is attached to the side skirt, and the tail fins deploy after firing.

It is mainly intended for use against Axis heavy mobile suits and anti-ship attacks.

The HGUC Gunpla is colored white and red, but in ZZ and Char's Counterattack, it can be seen for a moment that it is colored black like the beam rifle.

In addition, an additional option for the backpack called the "Quadruple Missile System" has been developed, which is a smaller version of this missile and is suspended via a mounting pylon.

Shield編集

A large shield made of Gundarium alloy, used by the main mass-produced units.

It is the same as the one used by the GM II (minor changes such as surface beam coating have been made), and since the appearance of the Jegan, a new type of shield with built-in missiles has been adopted, making this the last mass-produced unit equipped with the large shield with the traditional cross mark of the Federation. By the way, the Jegan's shield can also be used, and has been confirmed to be used by units belonging to the Irish-classbattleship "Oasis" and units belonging to the Luna II garrison that joined the Ra Cailum in the manga version of Beltorchika's Children.

Beam Javelin編集

A mass-produced model that has removed the telescopic mechanism from the one used by the Gundam, and the beam blade at the tip is rounded and bulging, making it look like a mace.

Used by the Dakar garrison when facing the Juaggu of the Zeon remnants. Nemo's beam sabre was blocked just before it was used, giving the impression that the GM III is greater than Nemo.
