Fainting*
Fainting refers to a temporary loss of consciousness. Although in real life it can happen to anyone, fainting in art and fiction is typically associated with women much more so than men.
The cause of the unconsciousness can vary. A sudden blow to the head or body, chemicals like chloroform, or even sudden emotions may be sufficient to induce fainting in a female character, depending on the story or artist's preferences. It often carries a romantic or erotic connotation, with the fainted character prone to needing saving, carrying, or in the cases of more explicit art, caressing or more by nearby male characters.
Exactly how long it lasts can vary greatly, but typically the unconsciousness is shown to last a few minutes to a few hours. (In real life, it is typically much shorter) The character may still find herself confused or dizzy upon first awakening.
