Contemporary art (現代美術, gendai bijutsu) is art that is not bound by classical or traditional ideas, but is created using modern sensibilities and contemporary techniques.
Many of the works are avant-garde and innovative, and many of them are characterized by the fact that they would make the average person who is ignorant about art tilt their head when looking at them.
The term contemporary is not limited to a specific period, but rather refers to a trend of artworks that emerged around the beginning of the 20th century.
