Overview
Madoushi Lulba ("Wizard Lulba" in English) is a comical fantasy adventure game for the MSX2 developed by Compile, released episodically on the company's Disc Station disk magazine on issues #1, #2, and #4 from 1988 to 1989. In 1990, all three chapters would be bundled into a collection called Disc Station Deluxe 2 - Madoushi Lulba Compilation (ディスクステーション DX#2 魔導師ラルバ 総集編), where their graphical quality was upgraded and an all-new chapter was included. This omnibus would later be rereleased on D4 Enterprise's online game store Project EGG in 2015. This game was one of the first works directed by Compile employee Kazunari Yonemitsu, who would later create the Madou Monogatari series as well as its puzzle-based spinoff Puyo Puyo, both of which have a similar setting and tone.
Madoushi Lulba takes place in a fantasy setting populated by anthropomorphic animals and monsters. The ancient dark wizard Lulba, who has been resurrected after 4.6 billion years of rest, aims to shroud the world in darkness. Cyber Cat, a humanoid feline swordsman who is on a journey back to his home town Yunora, finds himself dragged into the conflict against the wizard after obtaining the Sword of Light dropped by Haagen Duck, a top-hat wearing duck who joins forces with him as his loyal follower. As the two travel, they encounter numerous obstacles that force them to solve the problems of the local population, as well as contending with attacks by Lulba's monstrous henchmen.

Characters
- Lulba (ラルバ)
The game's villain, an evil sorcerer from 4.6 billion years in the past. He possesses dangerous magic power and desires to drown the world in darkness with his army of 240 million monsters. He holds the title of Dark Wizard (闇の魔導師), which would later be used by Schezo Wegey in Madou Monogatari II. He appears as a late-game enemy in Schezo's story in Madou Monogatari ARS.
- Cyber Cat (サイバーキャット)
The game's hero, a 16 year-old humanoid cat swordsman from Yunora. He is a light warrior, and as such the only person capable of wielding the Sword of Light.
- Haagen Duck (ハーゲンダック)
Cyber Cat's sidekick, a dapper white duck with a top hat and cane. He is the original keeper of the Sword of Light who is in search of a hero to serve, and he decides to become Cyber Cat's steadfast disciple. Like Lulba, he too appears in Schezo's story in Madou Monogatari ARS as an NPC, where he is searching the ruins of Rana for a strong person, and after some conversation ends up running away crying in response to Schezo's remarks.
- Owlbear (アウルベア)
One of Lulba's monsters, a telepathic and fierce owl/bear hybrid with sharp claws sent to assassinate Cyber Cat in Act 4. He would later appear in the Madou Monogatari and Puyo Puyo games as a semi-frequent monster. In the 2015 Project EGG reissue, his name is written as Owlguma (アウルぐま, which technically still means "Owlbear") due to rights concerns with Sega, who owns the character ever since their acquisition of Puyo Puyo, though the credits still keeps his name as "アウルベア".
