Games
In General
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: The Teal Mask features Ogerpon as a prominent character within the game's storyline. Mistakenly perceived as a malevolent ogre in the Kitakami region, this perception stems from a misunderstanding that unfolded many years ago.
It was officially revealed during the Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2023, along with Walking Wake,Iron Leaves, Okidogi, Munkidori, Fezandipiti, and Terapagos.
Story
Spoiler warning: this article may contain major plot or ending details.
Ogerpon is known in the legends of Septentria as a monster that once spread terror using its magical masks. It is said to have been defeated by the Loyal Three, a trio of heroic Pokémon, and retreated to the mountains. In reality, Ogerpon is a gentle and kind being, primarily seeking to make friends. It arrived in Septentria with its human companion, but both were rejected due to their appearance. Out of compassion, a local artisan crafted masks for Ogerpon to help them integrate with the villagers. Unfortunately, the masks drew the envy of the Loyal Three, who attacked the human and stole three of the masks. In a fit of rage, Ogerpon tracked down the thieves and took their lives, but was subsequently driven away by the villagers who believed the Loyal Three had tried to protect them. Ogerpon has since lived in seclusion within the mountains and only emerges during the Festival of Faces, where it can mingle with the crowd.
