Overview

OneShot (ワンショット) is a 2D RPG-style puzzle adventure game created by Eliza Velasquez (programming) and NightMargin (art). The game was first released in 2014 as a free game (in English) created in RPG Maker 2003, but was remade in RPG Maker XP after winning an overseas indie game contest. The remake version is currently available on Steam and can be purchased as a set with the soundtrack.

The remake allows for language changes, including English, Spanish, and Korean, followed by additional updates: the Solstice update was released on March 27, 2017, and the official Japanese version was added on September 7, 2017.

As a puzzle adventure game, the story progresses by solving puzzles and combining items. There are no elements of horror or instant death. The game is auto-saved due to the game's specifications.

As mentioned above, "Oneshot" is an English word meaning "one-time only," which has an important meaning in the game.

Gameplay

As the game tells us, "you only get one shot". As it is said, the game is auto-saved, and you cannot redo operations such as "watch a event again" or "go back to the opening".

Although it is possible to play the game in screen mode, it is recommended to play in window mode because of the wonderful tricks and effects that use the PC's functions.

About Solving the Riddles

Basically, the game can be advanced by the following actions:

  • Combine items with each other and use them in a certain place.
  • Show items to characters.
  • Check the location indicated in the game.
  • Do something with the mouse, etc...

If you get stuck, you may be able to get a hint by examining the same spot or by talking to a nearby character.

Story

Niko wakes up in a world that has lost its sun and is collapsing.

Prophetbot tells him that the light bulb Nico is holding is the new sun, and as the savior of this world, he and the player are to go to the tower. The player's objective is to guide Niko, deliver the sun to the tower, save the world, and return Niko his original world.
