The Xbox is a home video game console manufactured by Microsoft that is the first installment in the Xbox series of video game consoles.

The Xbox (エックスボックス), released in North America on November 15, 2001 and Japan on February 22, 2002, is the very first video game console produced by Microsoft. It is part of 6th generation video game consoles.


It is also the first video game console to introduce video game online service; in Xbox and its successors Xbox 360 and Xbox One's case, the Xbox Live online service.


The console itself has the 'box-like' design and is bigger compares to other consoles in the same generation. This was never see again in Xbox's successors.

  • It is powered by a Windows-based OS based on the Windows NT family.
  • Its processing power is provides by a custom-made Coppermine-based Intel Pentium III x86 CPU. It is clocked at 733 MHz.
  • Its graphics is powered by a custom-made NV2A GPU that is co-developed by Microsoft and Nvidia.
  • It has the unified 64 MB DDR SDRAM memory.
  • It has Nvidia's "MCPX" audio processor (based on SoundStorm audio processor) for audio processing.
  • It has the 3,5 inches HDD sized between 8 GB ot 10 GB. It is not user-replaceable, much like Xbox's sucessors.
  • It can use the optional memory card for game saves.
  • It has the integrated Ethernet connectivity supports. It also has 4 proprietary USB 1.1 ports for controllers and add-ons.
