Although they are based on real-life salmonids, most Salmonids can walk on land, like Inklings and Octolings.
Their eyes are large and protrude from their face, giving them an appearance that is difficult to describe as an ordinary salmon.
They move around in groups for resources, and Grizzco Industries is recruiting workers to defeat them and obtain eggs.
Detail
Salmonid crafts a weapon from the junk that fell into the ocean and attacks the Inklings.
They are generally belligerent and not afraid of death.
Their sense of smell is highly developed and they can pinpoint where we are hiding.
Salmonids have a trade treaty with the Octarians, and receive advanced Octarian's technology in exchange for their eggs but they are'nt give the Golden egg.
(This is why Octarians drop orange eggs in hero mode)
Salmonid Types
There are three main types of Salmonid troops;
- Lesser Salmonid, which exists in large numbers in the army and only drops orange eggs when defeated
- Boss Salmonid, which is stronger than Lesser Salmonid and drops Golden Eggs in addition to orange eggs when defeated
- King Salmonid,a huge enemy so powerful that defeating it becomes a Wave in itself
These three types can be further divided into multiple types.
Lesser Salmonid

They are low-class soldiers, and as explained, they only drop small Power Eggs when defeated, but since there are a lot of them, if you leave them, you will be unable to deal with them and will be easy to Splat, so it is best to defeat them without ignoring them.
- Smallfry
HP:40
It is the smallest of the Lesser salmonid and has a spoon. Although they have low attack power and health, they move quickly, making it difficult to aim.
They usually come in groups of three towards the player and will gradually damage us and create a situation where it is easier to splat.
If we have a weapon with low mobility like the Charger, it may be difficult to defeat them.
In some cases, they may be appointed to Fly fish, Fish Sticks, and Accompanying crew of Grillers.
- Chum
HP:100(Same as players)
They are medium-sized Lesser Salmonid.
Their attack power, health, and movement speed are all standard, and they also attack the player in groups.
If you are surrounded, there is a high risk of Splat so if you see them it is better to deal with it as much as possible.
Scrapper, Drizzler, Slammin'lid, Steel Eel, and Stinger are similar in size to Chum so it can be assumed Chum has been assigned to them.
- Cohock
HP:400
They are the largest of the Lesser Salmonids, and although they move slowly, they have high attack power and physical strength.
They are more troublesome than Boss Salmonid because they sometime act as a temporary shield for other Salmonids.
If you have a weapon with high attack power, you should prioritize dealing with them.
It can be assumed that Cohock who survived the battle will be assigned to large Boss Salmonids like Stealhead and BigShot.
Snatcher
HP:100(Same as players and Chum)

They are even lower in rank than Lesser Salmonids in the military, and are not allowed to engage in direct combat with the player.
As explained above, Snatcher will try to sneak away the golden eggs that have fallen on the field.
They have the same amount of health as Chum, and you can earn a small amount of Power Eggs by defeating it.
(If they have golden eggs, they will drop the same amount of golden eggs as they had just before they were defeated.)
In Splatoon 2,
they walk on land similar to Chum and carry away up to 3 golden eggs.
In Splatoon 3,
they fly through the air and carry away up to 8 golden eggs.
They are not difficult for us to defeat, but depending on where they move, they may become a hindrance for us to defeat other Salmonids.
Boss Salmonid
They are Salmonids which hold high ranks in the military.
Their attacks are more powerful and troublesome than Lesser Salmonid.
We need to memorize how to defeat all types of Boss Salmonids, as the defeating method differs depending on the type.
- Steelhead

Steelhead has yellowish eyes, hardened black scales, and a machine for producing bombs attached to its head.
They are large Boss Salmonids that throw bombs at us.
Like other Salmonids, they emerge from the sea, and when it gets close enough to the player, they stand still and faces the player they target for just a moment.
After that, creating a bomb on its head. Once the bomb is generated, it will remain stationary for about 1 second, and then it will be dropped.
Like Splat bomb, their bombs only have a momentary delay after they hit the ground before detonating.
If we were close enough to touch the bomb when it exploded, we would be defeated in one hit.
We can still receive damage even if you are a short distance away from the bomb.
To defeat Steelhead, we need to hit their head with an ink shot while they are spawning a bomb above their heads.
If we defeat them in this way, they will disappear with an explosion of our ink colors and we will earn 3 golden eggs.
(No damage can be done to the body or bomb that have already been dropped.)
The explosion will also engulf nearby Salmonids, and may even kill multiple Boss Salmonids.
Charger is a weapon that can easily defeat them due to its long range and high power.
They are the most combative of the large Boss Salmonids.
- Steel Eel

Supporting Information |

Steel Eel is a Boss Salmonid that is made up of a large, long machine that looks like a snake's skeleton and a Salmonid that acts as the pilot at the tail of the machine.
The long bodies of their machines spray ink like a Splash Wall.
Their attack is a ramming attack using the machine.
They aim the mechine's head at the targeted player.
If the targeted player is right next to them, they will coil around themselves like a real snake, leaving us with no chance of escape.
If we hit the ink-spraying part of their machine's torso, we will splat in one hit, and if we hit their head, we'll take temporary damage.
To defeat them, we need to hit the pilot in the tail of the machine with an ink shot.
(Attacks against the part of machines will not work.)
They have high health, so it's best for players who aren't targeted by them to follow right behind them and attack them.
It is possible for the targeted player to defeat them on their own, but if you couldn't quickly hit the pilot with an ink shot and defeat them, there is a high risk of receiving a counterattack.
- Scrapper

Scrapper is a Boss Salmonid which rides a car with a shield like Brella shield.
The color of the dorsal fin is yellow, which may be a symbol of the armored Salmonid.
They protect themselves with shields in front and on the sides but their backs cannot be protected even with shields, making them their only weak point.
Their movement is the same as the Lesser Salmonid, but due to the shield mentioned above, front and side attacks will not defeat them.
However, if we hit them with some ink shots from the front or side, they become immobilized for a certain period of time.
Normally, when we hit them with an inkshot, they aim at the last player we hit with an inkshot and rarely show their backs to that player so by hitting their shields with inkshots to stop them moving, we can damage their backs.
When we defeat them, they will disappear leaving behind 3 golden eggs.
When defeating them, it is recommended that two or more players work together, such as one player attacking their shield and stopping them from moving while the other attacks their back.
- Stinger
HP:420(Per pot HP:60 ×7)

Stinger is a Boss Salmonid that rides on top of a stack of pots and fires a beam of ink at the player.
Their pots are filled with ink that appears to be their own, and it can be assumed that this ink is used in their attacks.
Also, if we approach them and listen carefully, we will notice that the sound is coming from the pot.
The color of the dorsal fin is green, which may be a symbol of Salmonid mainly uses indirect attacks.
Their attack method is ink jets.
They basically target the player furthest away from them. The ink jets pass through walls and reach the player, so the only way to avoid them is to move left and right.
Their jets of ink can sometimes paint the ground beneath the player's feet, making it difficult to move, so we should take them out as quickly as possible.
To defeat them, you need to hit the 7 pots they are on with an ink shot to make them all fall.
If we close the distance, they won't be able to resist, so if we spot them, we should hurry up and get close to them.
When we defeat them, they will disappear leaving behind 3 golden eggs.
Blaster is a weapon that can drop multiple pots with a single shot, so if you have one, you should actively deal with them.
- Maws
HP:1200/1 Bomb(Left: Ink shot only, Right: When throwing a bomb into them mouth)

Maws is a Boss Salmonid that, like Inklings, hides on the ground and heads toward the player it targets, and when it reaches the player's feet, it pops out from the ground and preys on it.
Unlike other Salmonids, their bodies are pink and large. They have sonar attached to their bodies to find prey, and they float above the ground when hiding.
There is a delay of about 1 second between when they reach the target player's feet and when they preys on player.
In Splatoon 2, a ring-shaped light appears to indicate the range on the ground just before preying on, and in Splatoon 3, a unique sound effect is now generated in addition to that.
To defeat them, you need to throw a bomb into the ring at the right time before they show up.
If successful, they accidentally eat the bomb and disappear.
It is possible to hit them with ink shot at the moment they reveal their bodies, but this is an inefficient method as they have a huge amount of health.
When we defeat them, they will disappear leaving behind 3 golden eggs.
Many players seem to think that Maws is the weakest of the Boss Salmonids, perhaps because the actions needed to defeat them are simple.
