Overview
Tales of Vesperia was released on 7 August 2008 for the Xbox 360 followed by the English version on 26 August 2008 and European version on 26 June 2009. The Playstation 3 version was later released on 17 September 2009 which included various updates and a new playable character. A prequel film: Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike was released in Japanese theaters on 9 October 2009.

Story
In the planet called Terca Lumireis, people rely on Blastia as a means of survival. Having various capabilities such as generating power or drawing water from the ground, this ancient technology is most importantly used to create magical barriers to protect major cities and towns from the hordes of wild monsters that roam around the lands and seas.
Only the Imperial Knights and Guild members can venture outside the barrier as they carry Bohdi Blastia to protect themselves. Due to this very nature, many have never set foot on the vast undiscovered world that lies outside.
Playable Characters
Yuri Lowell (ユーリ・ローウェル)
"I've already made my choice. Have you forgotten?"
The main character. Living in the slums of the empire's capital city, Yuri comes of as a satirist towards others but has a heart of gold. Having his own sense of justice, he often helps those in need and will always do what he feels is right even if it means breaking the law.
Estelle (エステル)
"There are so many more things we could learn…If only our journey would continue…"
The main heroine. A young noble who wishes to leave the empire palace to seek Flynn. An intelligent yet naive person who has always wanted to see the world outside the barrier.
Flynn Scifo (フレン・シーフォ)
"A crime must be punished, and justice shall be served.
Even though you know this, you still did what you did…"
Yuri's childhood friend and rival. Flynn joined the Imperial Knights with a goal in changing the empire from within. In contrast with Yuri, Flynn is more well mannered, talented and believes that upholding the law is the only way to obtain true justice.
Repede (ラピード)
Yuri's trusty sidekick who carries a pipe from his previous master. Although a dog, he is able to understand the situation around him and somehow dislikes Estelle from approaching him.
Karol Capel (カロル・カペル)
"The star always performs the finishing blow, everybody knows that."
A young boy who joined the Hunting Blades Guild. Karol is an enthusiastic boy who is very knowledgeable about monsters and guilds but is the first to cower in the face of danger.
Rita Mordio (リタ・モルディオ)
"What? You’re calling me a thief. Have you ever heard of “common sense”?"
A genius girl who spends most of her time researching Blastia. Due to her talents and research, she is able to use magical artes. Has very poor social skills and tends to be aggressive when things do not go her way.
Raven (レイヴン)
"Old man? Now you've gone and hurt this old man's feelings."
A shady-looking old man who has always appear at unexpected times. Frivolous yet suspicious, he usually complain about his age whenever he is keeping up with everyone.
Judith (ジュディス)
"Well, if you think it might work, what’s the harm in trying it out?
I always say, 'Those who can, should.'"
A member of the Kritya race who travels around the world. Judith is very intellectual and rational due to her Kritya traits but at times can be very nonchalant to almost everything including battle.
Patty Fluer (パティ・フルール)
"Tomorrow will always take care of itself, so whatever will be, will be."
A self proclaimed adventurer who seeks the treasure of the legendary pirate Aifread. Although she is 14 years old, Patty does not act her age and speaks like an old person. Patty is only playable in the Playstation 3 version.
