The term "マグロ" (maguro), which literally means "tuna" in Japanese, Tuna refers to a group of large, saltwater fish that belong to the Thunnini tribe, within the Scombridae family. They are known for their streamlined, torpedo-shaped bodies, which make them fast swimmers, and are found in warm ocean waters around the world. Tuna are highly migratory, traveling vast distances across the oceans. Tuna is highly valued as a food source due to its firm, flavorful meat, often consumed raw (like in sushi), grilled, or canned. The term tuna is used metaphorically to describe someone who shows no emotion or is passive, particularly in intimate or sexual contexts. The comparison comes from the idea that a tuna, once caught and out of water, remains still and lifeless due to lack of oxygen and the inability to support their body without water’s buoyancy. So, when someone is described as "マグロ" in such situations, it implies they are unresponsive or lack enthusiasm, much like a "dead fish."
