The Space Shuttle is a reusable spaceplane/spacecraft operated by NASA between April 1981 and July 2011. Five shuttles were flown into space, of which two were destroyed (Challenger in 1986 and Columbia in 2003). The Shuttle Orbiter itself was built by Rockwell International (which had also built the B-1 Lancer)
