Arthur (アーサー, Āsā) is a masculine given name of Brythonic origin. There are various theories as to the etymology of the word, including that it is derived from the Roman clan name Artorius or from Artio, the Celtic goddess of bears. Other Celtic languages include Old Irish Artúur and Art and Welsh Arth (which is also likely to be the prototype for today's English Arthur).
