Actress (女優) is a female actor whose profession is acting in movies, plays, TV dramas, etc. Generally, they co-star with male actors, but there are also all-female theater companies such as the Takarazuka Revue. Recently, from a gender perspective, both men and women are increasingly being referred to as "actors" except in contexts that emphasize their gender.
