Biography編集

  • Background

Altea Aquila is one of the main characters from the ADV visual novel series Jain no Ikenie. She is one of the protagonists in the first game, and the main antagonist in the second and third entries.

Altea makes small appearances in Bianca's storyline, though she is completely absent in Mashikyuu Seijou Bianca ∞ Noein. Either way, these are implied to be non-canon.

Altea is the princess of the Aquila Kingdom. She is known across the land for her extraordinary beauty. Has blonde hair, blue eyes, and notoriously big breasts.

  • Jain no Ikenie 1 ~Shokushu-hime Altea~

When the kingdom of Aquila is struck by a drought that has lasted many months, a legendary sorcerer called Aldebaran (heavily implied to be the one who caused the disaster) shows up in the royal castle. Aldebaran requests for the princess Altea to marry him. She, under the protests of her parents, decides to go with Aldebaran to put an end to the drought.

Despite Aldebaran giving her a warm welcome to his mansion, the wizard implants tentacles on Altea's back, much to her horror. In the course of the following days, Altea is humiliated, tortured and deflowered by Aldebaran, a mysterious female spirit called Vega Lyra, and her very own tentacles.

Later on, she befriends another captured girl called Deneb Swan, the hot-blooded nomad princess of a small but militaristic nation. Deneb is being held hostage for similar reasons as Altea. They take a liking to each other and befriend quickly, with Altea expressing admiration for Deneb's bold and confronting nature. The latter gifts Altea a knife, revealing her intent to kill the wizard the moment he lowers his guard. Altea reluctantly accepts the gift.

Much later, Aldebaran locks Deneb up with by a slime creature, forcing Altea to watch her friend being assaulted by it. The sorcerer promises her to let Deneb go on the conditions that he is allowed to force himself on her yet again. Deneb takes the opportunity to stab Aldebaran on the back while he is distracted, piercing his heart in a fatal blow.

However, the spirit Vega takes over Altea's body. She reveals herself to be a witch and the deceased wife of Aldebaran. He wanted to resurrect her, so he chose Altea to become her vessel. To get complete control of the princess' body, Vega needs her to touch Aldebaran's blood, inadvertently spilled by Deneb when she murdered him. Vega proceeds to assault Deneb. Altea, having gained some courage thanks to her friend, attempts regain some control and kill herself with the knife given to her by Deneb. When that fails, Altea manages to assault Vega with her implanted tentacles until they drain the life out of the spirit.

Thanks to both Altea and Deneb's efforts, the evil sorcerer is now dead and his wife's resurrection fully prevented. The world is now at peace, and the Aquila and Swan nations form a prospering alliance. Both princesses celebrate their victory and newfound friendship. However, unbeknownst to everybody, Altea begins to slowly lose her sanity.

At the end of Bianca's storyline, Altea reveals she destroyed her own home world.

  • Jain no Ikenie 2 ~Onna Yuusha to Shuudoujo - Hateshinaki Zecchou~

An unspecified amount of time passes since the previous incident. Still maintaining the semblance of a royal princess, Altea now reigns over the world with an iron fist, in possession of the same powers of the ghostly witch whom she got rid of in the past. Any traces of this girl's sweet and caring personality are completely gone, for she now harbors a cruel, manipulative and hedonistic personality, finding utter joy in tormenting other people in many ways she can think of.

The heroine Rigel and her sidekick nun Capella are on a quest to defeat the former princess, now a feared witch in their eyes. Rigel has a demon sealed within her called Tartarus, far more terrifying than Altea herself.

After wandering around a forest, Rigel saves a blonde girl from a monster, unaware that this would-be victim is the tyrant she had sworn to hunt down. To show her "gratitude", the witch invites an unsuspecting Rigel to her house and eat some soup filled with "medicinal" herbs. Tartarus is highly suspicious of Altea. Against the demon's advice, Rigel drinks the soup, and falls unconscious. As it turns out, Altea was luring her into a trap, so the witch could rape the heroine to the point of exhaustion.

With Rigel unconscious, Tartarus is now in control of her body, albeit severely weakened. Altea proposes an alliance; If the demon lends Altea his power, she can rule the world, and he will get complete control of Rigel's body to do as he pleases. Tartarus, unimpressed, refuses that offer. Altea uses some magic to weaken him even further, with the intent of turning him into a loyal pet.

Out of nowhere, Capella breaks into the house and seals both Altea and Tartarus away, and Rigel is returned back to normal.

  • Jain no Ikenie Gaiden

Altea appears briefly at the beginning where she is seen laughing maniacally, with no sight or mention of the witch afterwards. However, it is implied Altea has been appearing in Kouta's dreams, and is responsible for the sudden growth of tentacles on his body, leading to the events of the game.

  • Jain no Ikenie 3 ~Shin Shou: Nerawareta Gakuen~

The story is now set in modern day Japan. Altea's ghost is accidentally summoned by a bunch of schoolgirls playing kokkuri-san, and seizes the opportunity to regularly torment the school's female students with her many tentacles. Aside from sadistic pleasure, Altea does this to gather life energy from the student body, so she can become stronger. On public, she pretends to be a transfer student.

This does not go unnoticed by Aoi Miyako, a member of a demon-hunting clan, who has come there to investigate this strange phenomenon. Her childhood friend Fukakusa Inaho tags along to help her however she can.

With the help of her classmate Kagurazaka Kaya, Inaho confronts Altea, and uses her magical powers to burn Altea to a crisp, with the latter letting out a terrified scream in the process.

Kaya then reveals she was the real Altea all along, and the blonde girl who has been wreaking havoc on the school was just a shadow. She was simply toying with everybody.

Miyako shows up just in time to save an exhausted Inaho from Kaya's assault. Miyako gives a speech about how wonderful her friendship with Inaho is, combines Inaho's power with her sword, and slashes Kaya's body in half with it.

After cursing the humans who managed to defeat her, the tentacle witch Altea is destroyed for real this time.

There is irony in Altea's final words: She expressed disgust at Miyako and Inaho's friendship, when in the past she had formed a strong bond with Deneb.

And before perishing, Altea felt outraged at the fact that she got defeated by humans, clearly having forgotten she was originally one.

Note regarding her name編集

At first it was theorized that her intended name was Altair Aquila, since all of the characters from her storyline are named after stars and constellations. Altea is her official name in the English version Sweet Sacrifices (localized by JAST), and it was previously thought to be mistranslation.

In fact, there is a scene where Deneb calls her Altair for a couple of dialogues, before going back to Altea. This may have been an oversight from the localization team.

However, an official response from CHAOS-R was sent through email, confirming that Altair was only ever used during production, and they themselves instructed JAST to localize her name as Altea.
