Overview
Keroro Gunso (ケロロ軍曹, Keroro Gunsō, lit. Sergeant Keroro), the manga was serialized by Mine Yoshizaki in the April 1999 issue of Monthly Shōnen Ace.

It received the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award for the children's manga category in 2004. This so far has been the only award-winning work by Mine Yoshizaki.
Despite it being for children it has been regarded as a Japanese South Park due to it's many parodies, homages, meta remarks, and black comedy.
The series was later adapted into a TV anime series with the same name by Sunrise Studio. It ran for 358 episodes from April 2004 to April 2011 on TV Tokyo. This has also spawned to several movies, video games, and another anime in 2014.
Synopsis
Keroro Gunso is a series about a group of a platoon of frog-like aliens led by Sergeant Keroro that is tasked by the army of Planet Keron to conquer Earth. However, they end up being friends with many of the humans in Inner Tokyo, and their plans of invasion become stuck up indefinitely.

Keroro
Sergeant of the platoon that uses most of his time to build gunpla models, read manga, watch tv, and play video games.
Tamama
The youngest and newest member of the platoon being at the rank of private second class. He is most known for his mood swings of being gentle and cheerful to violent and maniac very quickly.
Giroro

Ranking at corporal, Giroro tends to take his work more seriously than the rest of the platoon. He is also a weapons maijor using large variety of weapons.
Kururu
Also known as Kululu, he is the Sergeant Major making him a rank higher than Keroro. He is seen as intelligent yet having a unpleasant and unnerving demeanor with him generally disliking most of the cast.
Dororo
Formerly known as Zeroro, Dororo ranks at Lance Corporal. He is also a ninja that gets often forgotten about by the rest of the platoon. Unlike the others he wants to protect Earth.
