Operation Hailstone, known as the トラック島空襲 in Japan was a massive surface and air attack conducted by the US Navy in February 1944 on Truk Lagoon (now Chuuk Lagoon). The Air raid crippled the Japanese garrison in the atoll, allowing the US to invade the Mariana Islands in June 1944.
