The Song "Physical"
The song "Physical" was a 1981 international hit by Australian-born British singer Olivia Newton-John. The song was written by Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick.
It became the highest selling song single in the world in the 1980s.
The lyrics read,
"I've been patient, I've been good
Tried to keep my hands on the table
It's gettin' hard, this holdin' back
You know what I mean
I'm sure you'll understand my point of view
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you're bringin' out
The animal in me."
giving off a strong sexual undertone. Olivia at the time was apparently quite perplexed by the content of the song when it was offered to her.
The song was originally written with the intention of being sung by a male singer, but was offered to Tina Turner, who refused, so the song was given to Olivia.
The promotional video incorporated aerobics, which was gaining worldwide attention at the time, and helped make the song a hit.
