Overview
On July 18, 2019, in Kyoto, a middle-aged man walked into a building of Kyoto Animation and set it on fire. The resulting arson killed at least 36 employees while others were hospitalized. Work-related assets were also lost in the fire and further damaged the company's development. CEO Hideaki Hatta announced that the building would be demolished. A park was built over the burnt down building and a memoriam was erected to honor the lives lost in the fire.
The event that that resulted in huge setback to Kyoto Animation shocked all anime fans around the world as whole. In response, many sent their condolences and prayers to the victims of Kyoto Animation, creating the "#PrayForKyoani" hashtag on social media. American anime distributor Sentai Filmworks, a partner of Kyoto Animation, opened up a crowdfunding project for support to the victims.
On pixiv, many memorial works have been posted by both Japan and overseas artists.
Later on after the incident, there are some posts using this tag for "promoting" their art which have nothing to do with the incident. This is considered offensive to those affected by the incident, including the victims, KyoAni fans, and the people living around the Kyoto Animation building.
This is an extremely sensitive tag as it is being used for memoriam purposes. So please take this tag into heart when using.
