Overview

Tamako Market (たまこまーけっと, Tamako Māketto) is an anime by Kyoto Animation that began airing in Japan on January 10, 2013, and been licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks.

The anime sees the return of the main staff members from K-On! where Naoko Yamada, Reiko Yoshida, and Yukiko Horiguchi is assigned the director, script writer, and character designer respectively.


According to the Naoko Yamada, Their goal of making Tamako Market is to create a story full of human emotions.


Plot

Tamako Kitashirakawa is the eldest daughter of a family which runs a mochi shop in her town's bustling Tama-ya shopping district. One day, Tamako encounters a strange talking bird named Dela Mochimazzi who takes up residence in her home. The series follows the everyday life of Tamako, her friends, family and neighbors, and this peculiar bird.

Tamako Kitashirakawa is the main heroine of the story. Bright and cheerful, she is the eldest daughter of the family which runs the mochi shop "Tamaya". She is also currently a high school first year student. She apparently has a talent in making mochi looked extremely round, a skill that is rarely seen amongst her peers.


Anko Kitashirakawa

北白川あんこ

(CV:Rina Hidaka)

Anko Kitashirakawa is Tamako's 10 year old sister, currently in her 4th primary education year.

She is pretty fashion conscious, and sees her family mochi shop as "outdated".


Mamedai Kitashirakawa

かわいいあの子はもち屋の主人

Mamedai Kitashirakawa is Tamako's father, who runs the mochi shop "Tamaya"

Stubborn and tough, and also having a rivalry relationship with Gohei, which they both argue a lot.


Fuku Kitashirakawa

(CV:Tomomichi Nishimura)

Fuku Kitashirakawa is Tamako's grandfather, who lives with them and also runs Tamaya.


Dela Mochimazzi

A strange bird that speaks Japanese which he proclaimed to have came from the tropical place to look for a bride, but ended up putting a lot of weight due to gaining an affinity to mochi.


Ooji Family(Ooji-ya)

Mochizou Ooji

(CV:Atsushi Tamaru)

Mochizou Ooji is Tamako's childhood friend and also his classmate. His family runs Ooji-ya, which is also a mochi shop, which is located across Tamaya. He also falls in love with Tamako.


Gohei Ooji

うさぎ

(CV:Fumihiko Tachiki)

Gohei Ooji is Mochizou's father, and the owner of Ooji-ya. Due to running the same mochi business with Tamaya, Gohei and Mamedai Kitashirakawa have a rivalry relationship, and is never on good terms due to business competition.


Michiko Ooji

大路道子

(CV:Satsuki Yukino)

Michiko Ooji is Mochizou's mother, who helps running Ooji-ya.


Tamako's Classmates

Midori Tokiwa

たまこのみどりさん

(CV:Yuuki Kaneko)

Midori Tokiwa is Tamako's classmate and childhood friend, who attends the same baton club as Tamako. Her grandparents, whom she lives with, own and run a toy shop in the town's shopping district. Midori sees Tamako as something that she needs to "take care" of, so much that she feels she may be in love with her.


Kanna Makino

Kanna Makino is Tamako's classmate, attending the same club (baton club) as Tamako. A relaxed and laid back girl, She is the daughter of a carpenter who works in the same shopping district as Tamako and her family.


Asagiri Shiori

(CV:Yurie Yamashita)

Asagiri Shiori is also Tamako's classmate. She is very knowledgeable and resourceful, and is a member of badminton club. Though she was initially seen as a cool and serious girl, she is actually a shy and has troubles trying to open up to others.
