Overview
Publication (出版, publishing) is content publish to the general public. This includes everything from collecting manuscripts to creating the shape of the book. In some cases, it may also include selling the book. The term has sense expanded from books to other media and uploading.
That being said this article is about the publication of literature.
Even if you don't have any printing skills (i.e., even if you write by hand, if you make copies for sale or distribution), it still falls under this category.
Of course, even doujinshi, which are created using a copy machine or printer, or which have their parts printed or bound by specialized companies, are still considered to be publishing.
In recent years, DTP and electronic publishing have also emerged.
