Overview
Shinto (神道 \ しんとう, shintō \ しんどう, shindō) is a traditional Japanese religion. It is defined by the International Shinto Studies Association as a religion that originated from nature and folk beliefs that have continued since ancient times in Japan. In religious studies, it is classified as a polytheistic religion and an ethnic religion.
Nature and folk beliefs found around the world came to have a form that characterized Shinto in Japan, and eventually developed into an ethnic religion, which continues to this day.
