Overview
A tale (物語, monogatari), in the modern sense of the term, means to tell the whole story of a particular matter, or a story passed down from generation to generation whether it be a real event or a fictional story (such as fairytales or folklore. It can also mean a literary work in prose that describes a person or incident in narrative form, based on the author's observations and imagination.
An example of a fictional tale can be seen with this article's main image being from a Japanese folklore story known as The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, a story about a family raising a infant born out of a bamboo that was axed down.
Note that using this article's Japanese tag on pixiv will come up with works from the Monogatari series.
