Overview
Tokyo Revengers (東京リベンジャーズ, Tōkyō Ribenjāzu), in Japan as Tokyo卍Revengers (東京卍リベンジャーズ, Tōkyō Manji Ribenjāzu) is a Japanese manga serialized in Weekly Shōnen Magazine and written by Ken Wakui.
Manji Controversy
In the title for the manga in Japan uses a mangi, a type of a sauwastika (卍). Not to be confuse of a swastika (卐) due to this facing counter-clockwise. The mangi comes from the Chinese writing system and has a different meaning to the swastika in eastern cultures.
Due to modern cultures knowing the swastika symbol as part of the Nazi Party, and less cultures knowing about the look a like mangi, the symbol gets easily mistaken as that of the hate symbol. Because of this within international markets the mangi was removed from the title.
Despite this, the removal became controversial with fans saying it breaks freedom-of-speech. It became uncensored in Southeast Asian and South Asian releases. Crunchyroll, a streaming service in the west, still has this removed (most likely due how not well known the symbol is in the west).
