USS Lexington CV/CVA/CVS/CVT/AVT-16 was an Essex Class Aircraft Carrier of the US Navy. Named for the previously sunk USS Lexington CV-2, Lexington II as she often known as in Japan was originally to named Cabot.
History
During the Pacific War's Island Hopping Campaign, Lexington served as flagship for Admiral Marc Mitscher and the Fast Carrier Task Force (TF.38 when assigned to the US 3rd Fleet and TF.58 when assigned to the US 5th Fleet).
