Although they are based on real-life salmonids, most Salmonids can walk on land, like Inklings and Octolings.
Their eyes are large and protrude from their face, giving them an appearance that is difficult to describe as an ordinary salmon.
They move around in groups for resources, and Grizzco Industries is recruiting workers to defeat them and obtain eggs.
Detail
Salmonid crafts a weapon from the junk that fell into the ocean and attacks the Inklings.
They are generally belligerent and not afraid of death.
Their sense of smell is highly developed and they can pinpoint where we are hiding.
Salmonids have a trade treaty with the Octarians, and receive advanced Octarian's technology in exchange for their eggs but they are'nt give the Golden egg.
(This is why Octarians drop orange eggs in hero mode)
Salmonid Types
There are three main types of Salmonid troops;
- Lesser Salmonid, which exists in large numbers in the army and only drops orange eggs when defeated
- Boss Salmonid, which is stronger than Lesser Salmonid and drops Golden Eggs in addition to orange eggs when defeated
- King Salmonid,a huge enemy so powerful that defeating it becomes a Wave in itself
These three types can be further divided into multiple types.

They are low-class soldiers, and as explained, they only drop small Power Eggs when defeated, but since there are a lot of them, if you leave them, you will be unable to deal with them and will be easy to Splat, so it is best to defeat them without ignoring them.
- Smallfry
HP:40
It is the smallest of the Lesser salmonid and has a spoon. Although they have low attack power and health, they move quickly, making it difficult to aim.
They usually come in groups of three towards the player and will gradually damage us and create a situation where it is easier to splat.
If we have a weapon with low mobility like the Charger, it may be difficult to defeat them.
In some cases, they may be appointed to Fly fish, Fish Sticks, and Accompanying crew of Grillers.
- Chum
HP:100(Same as players)
They are medium-sized Lesser Salmonid.
Their attack power, health, and movement speed are all standard, and they also attack the player in groups.
If you are surrounded, there is a high risk of Splat so if you see them it is better to deal with it as much as possible.
Scrapper, Drizzler, Slammin'lid, Steel Eel, and Stinger are similar in size to Chum so it can be assumed Chum has been assigned to them.
- Cohock
HP:400
They are the largest of the Lesser Salmonids, and although they move slowly, they have high attack power and physical strength.
They are more troublesome than Boss Salmonid because they sometime act as a temporary shield for other Salmonids.
If you have a weapon with high attack power, you should prioritize dealing with them.
It can be assumed that Cohock who survived the battle will be assigned to large Boss Salmonids like Stealhead and BigShot.
- Snatcher
HP:100(Same as players and Chum)

They are even lower in rank than Lesser Salmonids in the military, and are not allowed to engage in direct combat with the player.
As explained above, Snatcher will try to sneak away the golden eggs that have fallen on the field.
They have the same amount of health as Chum, and you can earn a small amount of Power Eggs by defeating it.
(If they have golden eggs, they will drop the same amount of golden eggs as they had just before they were defeated.)
In Splatoon 2,
they walk on land similar to Chum and carry away up to 3 golden eggs.
In Splatoon 3,
they fly through the air and carry away up to 8 golden eggs.
They are not difficult for us to defeat, but depending on where they move, they may become a hindrance for us to defeat other Salmonids.
