History
Established as a doujin group during 1999 in order to develop Tsukihime. The founding members of the group were Takeshi Takeuchi, Kinoko Nasu, Seibee, and Kate. During halfway of the production, OKSG joined to help out the production as well.
After releasing their demo of the game "Half-Moon edition", Tsukihime was then released as a full version on December, 2000. Tsukihime then received high praise from people around, and since established itself as one of the most famous doujin circle during that time.
Soon after the success of Tsukihime, TYPE-MOON then release its fandisk, "Kagetsu Tohya", which also received great praises from their fans around. Later, TYPE-MOON then collaborated with Watanabe Productions (then French Bread)to develop "Melty Blood". It was around that time Koyama Hirokazu (Mahou Yoru no Tsukai character designer) joined TYPE-MOON as the second illustrator for the group.
Commercial
During the development of Fate/stay night, TYPE-MOON chose to go completely commercial and established itself as a game company in order to produce a high quality visual novel and also limitations as a doujin group. At that time, Type-Moon was already considered to be a firmly established group so rarely people consider them as a doujin group.
