Overview
Black Myth: Wukong is based on the Chinese classic novel Journey to the West. It was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows on August 20th, 2024. Before its release, it was generally well received by players, with praise for its combat, visual design, and worldview.
After successfully escorting Tang Sanzang and recovering the Buddhist scriptures, Sun Wukong ascends to Buddhahood, but ultimately rejected life in the Celestial Court, choosing instead to live peacefully in the mountains. However, the Celestial Court was angry that Sun Wukong did not listen to them and sent an army led by Erlang Shen to force him to return to the Court. Sun Wukong fought Erlang, but was incapacitated by the circlet that binds him to the Court and is sealed in a stone. However, just before being sealed, Sun Wukong divided his power into six Relics, each corresponding to one of Wukong's six senses, which were scattered and hidden throughout China. The player controls a monkey protagonist referred to as the Destined One, who looks like Sun Wukong, and the Destined One begins a journey to find all of Relics to revive Sun Wukong.
