Overview
Steam is a client application by Valve Corporation made in September 2003. Initially, the main purpose was to distribute updates of the company's Counter-Strike 1.6 update and other games for Windows. Half-Life 2, which became the first officially available download in December 2004, had a series of various problems such as startup and download failures, and in order to steadily build a solid foundation, the company began to provide client and system updates quite frequently.
In 2005, the company signed its first contract with an outside publisher, and from this point on, it began to establish a foothold for the widespread use of download sales on Steam.
