A cowboy (カウボーイ, kaubōi) is a person who works as a cattle and horse farmer in the United States of America. In art and culture, they are a great inspiration for American Western shooting action movies. They get confused with gunmen, perhaps due to the influence of western movies. Cowboys were also armed with firearms for self-defense and hunting, but they were different.

Although cowboys are portrayed as exclusively white in old westerns, there were many African and Hispanic (Latin American) cowboys in the actual western frontier period (there were other minorities such as Chinese people but these were the big two).
