Overview
The F1 Academy is a single-seater junior-level racing championship made exclusively for female drivers.
This series is open for female drivers who are 25 years of age or younger and who are 16 years of age or older at the time of participating in their first race of the season. All drivers must hold an international FIA license of grade B, C, or D.
The first season of F1 Academy started in 2023 and was held at seven locations worldwide, including Spielberg in Austria and Circuit of the Americas in the United States. Each race comprises three rounds. Five teams, each consisting of three female drivers, will participate in the inaugural season.
In the 2024 season, every Formula 1 team will represent one F1 Academy driver. These drivers and race cars will carry the team's livery. The other five drivers in the series will receive support from official sponsors. Also new for the 2024 season, every venue in the race calendar will feature one wild card driver.
Vehicle
The race cars used in the F1 Academy are similar to Formula 4 race cars. The chassis is designed by Tatuus Automobili and complies with the 2021 safety regulations from the FIA.
F1 Academy cars are equipped with Autotechnica 4-cylinder turbocharged 1.4L engines that produce 174 horsepower. Paired with a bespoke 6-speed transmission designed by SADEV, these cars accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km/h. The cars use Pirelli tires.
