Overview
Kingdom (キングダム, Kingudamu) is a historical manga by Yasuhisa Hara that has been serialized in Weekly Young Jump (Shueisha) since issue #9, 2006. The series has been published up to 63 volumes.
It is a historical manga set in the Spring and Autumn Warring States Period, focusing on the period of upheaval shortly after the accession to the throne of Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Although the depiction and storyline in the manga are strongly based on Hara's own experiences, there are many ambiguous parts that have to be depicted by the author's imagination, as they are thousands of years old and therefore not clearly understood.
Therefore, there are many original elements by the author, Hara, and although it is a historical manga, it has a strong original color with a more shonen manga-like flavor.
The manga has dynamic and meticulous drawings and a fast-paced storyline, sometimes interspersed with serious gags, and is still being written.
In addition, Social Kingdom, produced to commemorate the broadcast of the first TV anime season, was recognized by Guinness World Records as the manga drawn by the largest number of people in history. By the way, the number is 1,087.
TV Animation
The first TV anime season (38 episodes) was broadcast on NHK BS Premium from June 2012.
The second season aired in June 2013 with a total of 39 episodes.
In April 2020, the third season of the anime began airing on NHK General TV after a seven-year absence, but due to the new coronavirus, the broadcast was temporarily suspended after the fourth episode.
The resumption of broadcasting was undecided for a long time, but it was finally decided in October, half a year later.
