Overview
Kombucha (紅茶キノコ, kōcha kinoko, lit. 'red tea mushroom' / コンブチャ) is a a fermented beverage native to the Bohai Sea district in China that later became a common drink in Siberia.
In Japan, it became popular as a health food in the 1970s. Because it could be grown at home, it spread by word of mouth through strain sharing, but the boom was largely due to the publication of Kombucha Health Method (紅茶キノコ健康法).
