LGBT
LGBT (エルジービーティー) is a acronym for:
- L = Lesbian
- G = Gay
- B = Bisexual
- T = Transgender
In some cases, I = intersex is added to this to make it LGBTI.
The rainbow colors are often used as a symbol of sexual minorities.
This is because Judy Garland, who played the main character Dorothy in the musical The Wizard of Oz, was bisexual and showed understanding toward gays, and her theme song "Over the Rainbow" became a popular gay anthem.
The symbol was originally used in the gay community, but is now treated as a symbolic color for the entire LGBT community, as "rainbow colors = colors that represent diverse sexualities".
In recent years, the Progressive Pride Flag (プログレスプライドフラッグ) has been added to the colors of the flag to symbolize transgender people (light blue, pink, and white stripes) and brown and black to represent racial minorities, and is sometimes used as a more comprehensive symbol of diversity.
