Overview
Tokyo Narita International Airport is Tokyo's main International Airport.
History
The airport was originally opened in 1978 as New Tokyo International Airport, allowing most International flights to move from Haneda International Airport to New Tokyo (excluding airlines from the Republic of China on Taiwan). Protests against its construction largely due to fears of it being used a military base by the United States against the Soviet Union.
The airport was officially renamed Narita in 2004, although locals before this mainly referred to it as Narita Airport.
