    S-DAT, meaning Stationary Digital Audio Tape, is a portable audio player by Sony. In the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion the character Shinji Ikari owns one, but an anime original model that has not actually been commercialized.


    Shinji often listens to music on this. The genre he listens to is unknown, but he seems to be listening to the music of Yuki Uchida in the game Girlfriend of Steel.


    It also appears in the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. According to the movies, it originally belonged to his father, Gendo Ikari, who gave it to Shinji when they parted.
