The Tupolev Tu-22M Backfire is a Soviet built anti-ship and strategic bomber that was however not related to or a development of the Tu-22 Blinder. The Tu-22M rather named so for political reasons. The Backfire was at one point designated the Tu-26 by NATO.
The aircraft has been operated by the Soviet Naval Aviation, Russian Naval Aviation, Soviet Air Forces, Russian Air Force, Ukrainian Naval Aviation, Ukrainian Air Force several other former CIS countries.
