USS Enterprise CV-6

Former aircraft carrier of the US Navy

USS Enterprise CV/CV(N)-6 was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier of the US Navy. Nicknamed the The Big E, she was notable for taking part in more engagements than any other US warship during the Pacific War. Enterprise along with USS Saratoga CV-3 and USS Ranger CV-4 were the only pre-war US carriers to survive the War.

Enterprise also was the first US ship to sink a Japanese vessel in World War II (I-70), the first to sink a Japanese battleship (IJN Hiei) and helped to sink the carriers Akagi, Kaga and Hiryu at Midway.

After World War II, the Big E was scrapped in the late 50s, due to her size preventing her to operate jet aircraft and the surplus of US carriers.
