Overview
Ukagaka (伺か) is a desktop application from Japan that generally consist of mascot like characters to be on one's desktop. Ukagaka was a term that originally referred to the baseware materia (the first baseware made for Ukagaka), but is now often used to refer to the community as a whole. In the past, it was also called Fake Personaware with "Nise-Haruna (Fake Haruna)" (偽ペルソナウェア with "偽春菜"), Are Igai no Nanika with "Nin'i-tan" (あれ以外の何か with "任意"), or Nanika (何か).
Some of the well-known basewares for Ukagaka are:
- Windows: materia (Ukagaka), C.R.O.W., SSP
- MacOS: Ukagaka on Mac, NiseRingo, PlayonMac+SSP, WineBottler
- Linux / FreeBSD: ninix-aya
The baseware is used by installing ghosts, which are character data, on the baseware.
Currently, the development of the original program Ukagaka itself was stopped in 2002, and SSP, which is highly compatible with materia and has various unique extensions to reduce load and improve usability, has become the mainstream of development.
In addition, as of 2019, updates to the ghosts already published continue to be made and new ghosts are being published. New shells continue to be published accordingly.
However, there are a few cases where updates have already been stopped, or where the site has been closed without notice, making it difficult to obtain the information.
