Overview
Insects (昆虫) are arthropods belonging to the class Insecta (also called Ectognatha) of the subphylum Hexapoda.
They are the animals most commonly known as bugs (虫), But distinguishable from the others (such as spiders and centipedes) by having three body sections (head, thorax and abdomen) and 6 walking legs. They include dragonflies, grasshoppers, cicadas, bees, beetles, butterflies and so on.
Approximately one million species of insects are known worldwide, which is three-fourths of all animals on earth and more than half of all living things. Even so, it is said that there are still many undiscovered species.
