Sega

Sega (セガ) is a multinational video game software developer and publisher headquartered in Japan, with various offices around the world.

Overview

Sega (セガ), sometimes in all caps as SEGA, is a video game company best known for the sonic series.

Sega is an acronym for Service Games.

History

Established in 1960 (strictly speaking, there are two original series that lead to the current Sega, and there are several cases where the year of establishment differs in light of multiple acquisitions of other companies, but Sega officially treats 1960 as the year of establishment when it became a Japanese company). It was originally an independent Japanese branch of Service Games, which sold jukeboxes and slots, and changed its name to Sega Enterprises when it merged with Rosen Enterprises.

For many years, the headquarters and flagship branch were located in Ōtorii, Haneda, where the company was founded.
