Overview
Frozen desserts (冷菓, reika) are ice cream, sherbet, popsicles, and other snacks made by adding sugar and flavoring to cream, milk, fruit juice, or other ingredients.
Ice cream is often eaten in summer to cool off, but it is also eaten as an after-dinner dessert or after a bath, regardless of the season.
In winter, many people in Hokkaido heat up their rooms to the point where it becomes too hot and eat ice cream in the room, making winter ice cream consumption the highest in Japan.
According to current Japanese regulations, hyouka is defined as ice cream that does not contain milk fat or milk solids, and is distinguished from ice cream.
