Outline

Venti is a 5-Star playable Bow Anemo character in Genshin Impact.

He is a free-spirited, wine-loving bard in Mondstadt and the current mortal vessel of Barbatos, the Anemo Archon.

Personality

Venti has a somewhat recalcitrant, carefree, and playful attitude as well as a liking to rhyming in his speech. He sees a particular worth in music to the point where he names his lyre, saying, "every being deserves a name to be called upon, and woven into a song." He is also bold, not fearing to insult or ignore those who are supposedly powerful. In the game, he responds to Paimon (Genshin Impact)'s comments and nicknaming by parroting her.

Venti enjoys roaming around Mondstadt playing songs to his people, most of whom are unaware of his true identity as Barbatos. He is very well-liked due to his musical talent, having won the title "Most Popular Bard of Mondstadt" three times. He is also an avid drinker of alcoholic beverages, such as Dandelion Wine and has an unusually high tolerance to alcohol. He is also fine with apple cider. To his disdain, the form he takes causes most bartenders to see him as a minor.

Being a god who is generally absent for prolonged periods of time, Venti has no personal finances; he often resorts to pilfering from the Dawn Winery for food and shamelessly has people listening to his songs buy him drinks in lieu of a payment. For reasons unknown, he is deathly allergic to cats and will not perform unless he is certain none are nearby.

He also enjoys apples, considering them to be the fruit of the gods, jokingly stating that he would refuse to go to Celestia even if he was invited because their apples are bland and the water foul, which would make bad cider. He dislikes items that are sticky and slimy, such as cheese.

Despite his normally playful personality as the bard Venti, he speaks wisely and somewhat philosophically whenever he assumes his true identity due to the many experiences he had being one of the original members of The Seven. Compared to Zhongli, the mortal vessel of Morax, Venti does not mind revealing his identity and using his powers for various tasks.

For all his cheer and wisdom, Venti hides a lonely soul who, even millennia later, continues to feel strongly about the loss of the Bard whose form he imitates and even compares himself to "Stanley"; both took on the name and form of their deceased friend, and it is also implied in his Story Quest that his alcoholism is meant as a way to cope with his loss.

Venti also confesses to finding the Traveler's ability to discern what he's thinking as discomforting, but admits that he appreciates having a true friend, similar to how he views the Bard.

Character Mentions

Zhongli

Tsk... It reeks of wine. That bard has just been through here, hasn't he? That drunkard is a disgrace to the arts. Oh... Has he tricked you into getting drunk? You're slurring a little. Wait a moment, I'll brew a pot of sobering tea. It'll be ready in only six hours, so just wait a moment.

Barbara (Genshin Impact)

Venti's voice is amazing! But the songs he sings and the ones I'm good at are very different. I tried to learn them but... the melodies are just so complicated.

Rosaria (Genshin Impact)

There's something extremely interesting about this bard... I can't quite put my finger on it. There's something that makes him different from the others in Mondstadt.

Diona (Genshin Impact)

Venti? I'm not familiar with him... He's a bard? Oh, he must be that guy who sings tunes to entertain the drunkards. Well, then I don't like him, no no no...

Eula

I heard that bard sing a few songs about the Lawrence Clan... They were lighthearted and funny stories that mocked the clan in a way I've never heard anyone else do. Even I couldn't help but burst out laughing... And for this, he must pay!

Mona (Genshin Impact)

Venti? The bard that sits around doing nothing all day? What's so interesting about him? Sure, I guess I can take a look... Huh, that's weird, the scryglass, it's... I can't see a thing... this wind... I can't... open my eyes! No, my hat! Ah! My clothes, stop! The wind's going to strip all my clothes off! Make it stop, make it stop! ...Alright, alright! I'll never do this again!

Raiden Shogun

Hmm. So, the Anemo Archon still goes by that name among mortals these days? Truth be told, from the very first moment I met him, I could somehow sense that we were not going to get along. Also, he sure can drink a lot.

Razor doesn't know poems, but... lupical likes them.

Xiao (Genshin Impact)

Venti? So that's the name he goes by. His tunes are... forget it.

Traveler

(Traveler): Everyone says that Mondstadt is the land of the wind.

(Traveler): But I wonder which direction the seasonal winds come from.

Paimon: Why don't we ask Venti?

(Traveler): He'll probably just dodge the question with a "hehe" or something...

Paimon: True. The Anemo Archon is just a Tone-Deaf Bard. What does he know about the wind?

Paimon: Paimon finds that hard work hardly works here in Mondstadt.

(Traveler): Why do you say that?

Paimon: Just look at Huffman from the Knights of Favonius. He does his best at his duties every day...

Paimon: But the ever-relaxed Captain Kaeya is his boss.

(Traveler): Hmm, but isn't Jean, who works the hardest, the Acting Grand Master?

Paimon: W—Well, how about this, then...

Paimon: Venti's the god of Mondstadt, and he's the laziest of them all!

Paimon: Mondstadt is full of wide plains and rolling hills.

Paimon: People say that when Barbatos made this land, he used the storm to flatten the cliffs and valleys...

(Traveler): Still, it looks like he missed a few spots.

Paimon: Like Starsnatch Cliff?

(Traveler): Exactly.

(Traveler): On the map, it almost looks as if it was meant to be the apex of a vertical structure, but ended up at the wrong orientation.

Paimon: Wh—What's an "apex"?

(Traveler): On the way back to Mondstadt after rescuing Dvalin...

(Traveler): We finally got to see one of the Seven Archons, didn't we? It was interesting to see what kind of god he was.

Paimon: Hmm... Haven't we known Venti for quite a while now?

(Traveler): As Venti, yes... But still, this was the first time that we got to see him as the Anemo Archon, Barbatos.

(Traveler): Normally, he hides his true divinity behind the facade of a bard.

(Traveler): "What does freedom really mean, when demanded of you by a god?"

(Traveler): That question that he asked Dvalin... I'm still contemplating that, you know?

Paimon: Mondstadt has so many windmills, doesn't it?

(Traveler): Well, the city is built above water, so it probably relies on (the windmills/windmills) to draw the water upwards.

Paimon: That's correct! The winds blow through Mondstadt all year, so this supply of water is very stable.

Paimon: Also, windmills are what they call "visible winds" — and wind chimes are the "audible winds".

Paimon: Paimon guesses they can be thought of as mascots and prayers to the Anemo Archon for protection.

(Traveler): Ah, mascots. So, like you then Paimon?

Paimon: No! Not at all! They're made of wood, and you can't eat them in an emergency either, cause all you'd do is grind your teeth down!

(Traveler): (Uhh.../Umm...)

(Traveler): ...I don't know what to say to that.

(Traveler): It never stops raining on Yashiori Island. I heard it's because of the lingering evil energy.

Paimon: "Evil energy"? What's that? Sounds terrifying.

(Traveler): It's caused by the remains of an evil god somewhere on the island. Because its power hasn't fully dispersed, the remaining energy causes all sorts of misfortunes. That's what I meant when I said "evil energy."

Paimon: Oh, that makes sense. But Paimon doesn't think rain is a bad thing.

Paimon: Maybe that god has been crying all this time because they were bullied.

(Traveler): Crying? I don't think gods can cry. I mean, I've never seen Venti or Zhongli cry before.

Paimon: There are exceptions! If you pinch Paimon, you'll be able to see a crying god.

(Traveler): Hmm? Are you a god?

Paimon: Paimon sure is!

(Traveler): Okay, let me guess... The flying god of silly questions? The god of slimes? Or the god of being fished out from the water?

Paimon: Paimon's none of those! Hmph!

Paimon: As your bodyguard, (Traveler), Paimon is the god of protection! Hehe.
