Overview

AlphaDream (アルファドリーム, ArufaDorīmu) was a Japanese video game development company best known for their works on the Mario & Luigi series.

History

In 1991, the company was established as Mente Tomo and Ai (メンテ友アンド愛), a construction office undertaking interior and exterior work. On January 12, 2000, it changed its name to AlphaStar Software (アルファスターソフト), and shifted its operations to the video game development business. In July of the same year, the company name was changed again to AlphaDream. The company was founded under the leadership of Chihiro Fujioka, who served as director of Super Mario RPG at Square.

Tetsuo Mizuno, who was Square's second president, served as president.

The company name is said to have been named after Final Fantasy, a masterpiece of Square's old rival, and is a pairing of the Greek word alpha (the first) and dream.
