The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is a four engined strategic bomber built by Boeing for the USAAF. Originally first flown in 1942, the B-29 didn't enter service until May 1944.

The first B-29 raids on occurred on 5 June 1944 against targets in Thailand. On 15 June 1944, the first B-29 raid on the Japanese Home Islands took place on Yawata. The first B-29 raid from the Mariana Islands took place on 28 October 1944 against Truk Atoll, with the first raid on Japan taking place on 24 November 1944 against Tokyo.

During 1945, the B-29 was also used on low level raids at Night, including over Tokyo on 9-10 March 1945. The B-29 is also notable for the Nuclear attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

After World War II, the B-29 was used by the USAF after 1947, taking part in the Korean War between 1950 and 1953. After November 1950, B-29s started to be attacked by the faster flying MiG-15.
