Ayashii World (あやしいわーるど, lit. "Strange World"), originally opened on August 21, 1996 and closed on September 3, 1998, it was an internet bulletin board managed by Masayuki Shiba, but after its closure, former residents freely started their own bulletin boards that were called successors to Ayashii World. The word Ayashii World has become a word that describes the entire group of boards sharing a similar culture.

In the 2000s, the group managed to maintain its strength as a kind of alumni association, but it has not been able to overcome the aging of its members, and the number of boards without administrators or that have been closed has been increasing, and the group as a whole has been shrinking.

When the original Ayashii World was closed down, many of its residents migrated to Amezou, which was the leading BBS at the time, and passed the culture of Ayashii World on to the outside world. This culture was eventually passed on to 2channel, and the early culture of 2channel was in many ways influenced by Ayashii World. For example, DQN, Hikki, and Giko Cat originated from Ayashii.
