Overview
Famicom Detective Club (ファミコン探偵倶楽部, Famicom Tantei Club) is a series of command-selection mystery adventure games developed by Nintendo for the Famicom Disk System.
Structure
A trilogy consisting of The Missing Heir (ファミコン探偵倶楽部 消えた後継者, Famicom Tantei Club: Kieta Koukeisha, lit. "Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir") and The Girl Who Stands Behind (ファミコン探偵倶楽部PART2 うしろに立つ少女, Famicom Tantei Club Part II: Ushiro ni Tatsu Shoujo, lit. "Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl Who Stands Behind") written by Sakamoto Yoshio, and Lost Memories in the Snow (BS探偵倶楽部 ~雪に消えた過去~, BS Tantei Club ~Yuki ni Kieta Kako~) written by Asama Nagihiro and Oosawa Tooru.
The series ceased after Lost Memories in the Snow was distributed on the Satellaview satellite data broadcasting unit for the Super Famicom, and remakes and ports of the previous two works have only been released since then. In particular, Lost Memories in the Snow, which was released for the Satellaview, is considered a "phantom work" because it has neither been remade nor ported.
The first and second game has been ported to other Nintendo platforms and had a remake for the Switch that was the first official translation for other markets of the game.
The first installment, The Missing Heir, set the direction of the series, while the second installment, The Girl Who Stood Stands Me, depicts a past encounter between the protagonist and Shunsuke Utsugi, and the third installment, Lost Memories in the Snow, focuses on Ayumi Tachibana, the heroine of the game, all of which have strong connections to each other and are based on an unusual setting in which a young assistant detective tries to solve a murder that is likened to a strange legend in a mystery adventure game.
